Vladimir Zhuravlev (1922–2010)

Владимир Журавлёв

Leading Researcher of the Laboratory of sociolinguistic research (now Research Center on Ethnic and Language Relations) and of the Laboratory of linguistic comparative studies (now Section of Comparative Linguistics).

PhD, Dr.habil.

 

PhD, Dr.habil. (1965), Prof. of General and Slavic Linguistics; a corresponding member of the International Slavic Academy of Sciences, Education, Arts and Culture, a foreign member of the Bulgarian Philological Society. Leading Researcher of the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences: Senior Researcher of the Section of Sociolinguistics (since 1974), Leading Researcher of the Laboratory of sociolinguistic research (since 1986), Leading Researcher of the Laboratory of Linguistic Comparative Studies (since 1989). On the website of the Institute of Linguistics, one can find an essay about Vladimir Zhuravlev written by the Head of the Comparative Linguistics Section, Konstantin Krasukhin. The interview with Vladimir Zhuravlev recorded by Ignatiy Zhuravlev in 1999 is available here.

In World War II

1941—1947  — Defence of Moscow — Defence of Stalingrad — 3rd Ukrainian Front. He participated in the liberation of Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Romania, Hungary, and Austria.

He has received four government awards.
