Research Center on Ethnic and Language Relations

Established in 1989 on the basis of the Sociolinguistics Section by the RAS Presidium decree.

Research Focuses

  1. theory, conceptual framework, and methods of sociolinguistics;
  2. language situations and language policies in Russia and abroad;
  3. language contacts, international and inter-ethnic languages; bilingualism and polylingualism;
  4. language conflicts and their mediation; regulation of ethnolingual relationship in law;
  5. mediation of language conflicts in the international practice;
  6. endangered languages around the globe;
  7. general trends in the dynamics of the worldwide linguistic processes
  8. history of sociolinguistics;
  9. development of the conceptual framework and methodology of sociolingustic prognosis;
  10. development of the general principles of a people's linguistic biography.
