Георгий Владимирович Степанов

Head of the Section of Romance languages, Director of the Institute of Linguistics

PhD, Dr.habil.

Soviet linguist-Romanist, the author of works on the Spanish language of Spain and Latin America and on Spanish literature. Director of the Institute of Linguistics of the USSR Academy of Sciences in 1977-1986.

In World War II

1941—1944  — the Secretary of the Political Department of the Leningrad People’s Militia Army /Leningrad Front/ — the Commissioner of the Partisan detachment in Estonia. The participant of the Spanish Civil War (1938-1939). Was wounded twice.

He has received twelve government awards.
