Elena Parina was born in Moscow, 1977.

She graduated with honors from RSUH, Faculty of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics, in 1999. Diploma thesis "Izmenjaemye predlogi v vallijskom jazyke" [Variable prepositions in the Welsh language], research advisor Andrei Korolev. (digital version, in Russian).
During her studies Elena received two grants of the Open Society Institution, allowing her to participate in summer courses of the Welsh Language in Nant Gwrtheyrn (1997) and Celtic Studies Summer School (Maynooth, Ireland, 1998).
She undertook internships at the University of Freiburg, Germany, 1997, and at the University of Vienna (through the ÖAAD scholarship), Austria, 2000.
Elena Parina was recruited to work at the Institute of Linguistics RAS, Section of Anatolian and Celtic languages, by Victor Kalugin in 2004.
She earned her PhD degree in 2006; research advisor Anna Dybo, PhD thesis "Ličnye mestoimenija v srednevallijskom jazyke: sinxronija, diaxronija, tipologija" [Personal pronouns in the Middle Welsh; synchrony, diacrhony, typology] (see the digital versions in Russian: abstract, title page, full text).
 

Teaching career
Elena Parina has been giving courses since 2002; among them are "Language and culture of Wales", "Middle Welsh", "Languages of Ancient Britain", "Introduction to Celtic studies: Continental and Brittonic languages", and "Comparative grammar of the modern Breton and Welsh". The last two are taught in collaboration with Anna Muradova at the Department of Germanic Linguistics, Faculty of Philology, Lomonosov State University of Moscow (see her profile, in Russian) and Department of Ancient Languages Institute of Linguistics RSUH.

Academic career
Elena Parina's main research interest is the Welsh language at all stages of its history and development, from its most ancient records to modern data. Her major research foci are language contacts, translation studies, lexical semantics, and medieval and Early Modern Welsh religious texts.
Executive secretary for the organizing committee of the Sixth International conference of Societas Celto-Slavica (Faculty of Philology, SPBU; June 28-30th, 2012) (conference record).

In the media
Actively collaborates with fellow scholars in the development of the website www.cymraeg.ru, which aims to spread information on Wales and the Welsh.
Served as a consultant on the Welsh language during the filming of the "Artefact" [Artifact] movie (2009).
