Tatiana Toporova

Leading Researcher, Section of Germanic Languages

PhD

Works at the Institute of Linguistics since 1986.

Tatiana Toporova was born in 1960. In 1982, she graduated from the Division of Romance and Germanic Philology of Lomonosov Moscow State University. In 1986, she completed her postgraduate studies at the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences where she then started working at the Section of Germanic Languages. Tatiana Toporova specializes in Proto-Germanic languages. She defended her PhD thesis "Problemy lingvističeskoj rekonstrukcii germanskoj kosmogonii" [Problems of linguistic reconstruction of German cosmogony] in 2000. 

Currently, Tatiana Toporova is developing a framework for describing epic vocabulary on the materials of Proto-Germanic mythopoetic sources. See the example (in Russian) here.
