Senior Researcher, Section of Areal Linguistics

 

Elena Markus has been working at the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences since 2007.

Research interests

Phonetics, phonology, morphonology, morphology, linguistic typology, areal linguistics, language contacts, field linguistics, documentation of endangered languages, Finno-Ugric languages, Finnic languages, Votic, Indrian.  

Biography 

From 1997 to 2002 Elena Markus studied at the Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics of the Moscow State Linguistic University.
From 2002 to 2005 studied in full-time postgraduate studies at the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
In 2007 she was enrolled as a junior researcher in the group "Languages of the World" of the Department of Indo-European Languages. At the present time she is Senior Researcher of Section of Areal Linguistics. 
Since 2001 she has carried out fieldwork on the study of the Votic language, since 2006 - the Indrian language. She participated in linguistic expeditions of MSU to study the Besermyan dialect of the Udmurt language (2002-2005), and the Shoksha dialect of the Mordovian language (2006).

  • PhD thesis (2006): "Typology of morphemic variation (on the material of morphonological systems of dialects of the Votic language)", specialty 10.02.20 - comparative-historical, typological and comparative linguistics.
