Irina Rumyantseva

Irina Rumyantseva specialises in several areas of linguistics (language theory, applied linguistics, psycholinguistics, speech studies, ontolinguistics), as well as in psychology and new pedagogical technologies for language teaching.

Based on her research of speech mechanisms, Rumyantseva developed her own "ontogenetic" and "psychotherapeutic" track in foreign language teaching, in particular, her Integrative linguo-psychological training (ILPT). It has helped more than 500 adults in language learning over the last 30 years.

Language skills: English, German, Hindi, Pali, Sanskrit.

Born on the 28th of February 1956 in Moscow to a family of a linguist.

In 1979, she graduated the Indian Department of the Institute of Asian and African Studies at Moscow State University.

In 1977-1978, she underwent scientific and educational traineeship at the Institute of Delhi (India).

In 1979-1983, Rumyantseva undertook her postgraduate studies at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the USSR Academy of Sciences.

In 1984, she defended her PhD thesis "Vokalizm i ritmičeskaja struktura slova v xindi (opyt sinteza)' [Vocalism and the Rhythmic Structure of the Word in Hindi (an Experiment in Synthesis)], specialisation 10.02.22 – Languages of the peoples of Asian, African, aboriginal American and Australian peoples.

In 2001, she obtained her Dr.habil. degree after presenting the thesis "Psixolingvističeskie mexanizmy i metody formirovanija reči" [Psycholinguistics Mechanisms and Methods of Speech Formation] at the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences (specialisation 10.02.19 – Language theory).

In 2005, Rumyantseva obtained her Dr.habil. degree in psychology after presenting her thesis "Psixologija obučenija inojazyčnoj reči (psixoterapevtičeskij podxod)" [The Psychology of Foreign Language Teaching (Psychotherapeutic Approach)] at Sholokhov Moscow State University for Humanities (specialisation 19.00.07 – Pedagogical psychology).

In 2008, she was appointed Professor.

Since 2010, she has been working as a professor at the Institute of Asian and African Studies of Moscow State University.

She gave lectures and seminars in the University of San-Francisco (USA, 1991), Oxford University (UK, 1994), the University of Heidelberg (Germany, 1996), the University of Bordeaux (France, 1998), the University of Utrecht (Netherlands, 2000), the University of Illinois (USA, 2001).

She also gave lectures and workshops in different universities in CIS countries.

Rumyantseva was the head of the State Commission for Attestation at Russian State University for the Humanities, Moscow State Linguistic University and the International Slavic Institute.

She works as an academic supervisor to postgraduate and doctorate students: three PhD theses and one Dr.habil. thesis were prepared under her supervision.

From 2001 to 2014, she was a member of the Academic Council for Theses at Pushkin State Russian Language Institute.

Rumyantseva participated in numerous international scientific conferences: the International Congress of Orientalists (1990, Czechoslovakia), the International Scientific Congress "Modern Languages of the World" (1991, USA), a recurring international conference "Global Tensions in Language and Education" (1994, 1996, 1998, 2000, Great Britain, Germany, France, the Netherlands), the International Conference on Cognitive Sciences (2006, 2008, Russia) etc. She was a member or the head of the Organisational Committees of Conferences multiple times.

She is a member of editing boards of journals and scientific and methodological collections.

Rumyantseva participated in creating a popular science film "Psycholinguistics" for the TV show "Science: The Big Leap" on the channel Russia-2.
