Head of the Section of Anatolian and Celtic Studies, Deputy Director of the Institute of Linguistics
Andrej Sideltsev’s research interest is the Hittite language, currently the syntax of Hittite in three perspectives: synchronic and descriptive, diachronic (Anatolian and Indo-European) and theoretical (generative linguistics).
Main points of interest have recently been the following ones:
- second position (clitics vs stressed elements of the second position; multiple second positions; intraclausal second position effects; with particular emphasis of the particles -(m)a (marking contrast as well as contrastive topic and focus), -wa(r) (quotative), imma (focus), -pat (focus), clitic order in the enclitic chain);
- argument clitics (with E.A. Lyutikova);
- non-finite verb forms (participles and infinitives) (argument marking with infinitive, active and passive participles) (with E.A. Lyutikova);
- word order (word order and information structure, cartography);
- indefinite pronouns;
- irrealis marker man;
- complex sentence.
Earlier interests included morphonology, aspect, clitic doubling in Hittite, philological editions of Hittite texts (with A.S. Kassian and A.A.Korolev).
PhD «Hittite verbs with the suffix -ske- against the Indo-European background» (1999), scientific advisor A.A.Korolev.
