Valentina Andreeva

Researcher, Department of Languages of East and Southeast Asia

In 1977, Valentina Andreeva graduated with honors in Vietnamese Philology from the Faculty of Asian and African Studies of the Leningrad State University. From 1974 to 1975, she did an internship at Hanoi University. She defended a diploma thesis on Vietnamese synonyms. After graduation, she worked as a proof-reader at the Far Eastern office of Progress Publishers.

Valentina Andreeva has been a researcher at the Department of Languages of East and Southeast Asia at the Institute of Linguistics since October 1991. She actively contributed to compiling a Big Vietnamese-Russian dictionary. The dictionary is considered a unique piece of work as it covers a wide range of Vietnamese lexical units in a profound way.

Valentina Andreeva has participated in bilateral theoretical seminars and discussions on the work of Russian and Vietnamese lexicographers numerous times. In 2001, she took part in a Russian-Vietnamese linguistic expedition, where she collected linguistic data and edited questionnaires.

She is an author-compiler, an editorial board member, an executive editor, and, together with Nguyen Tuyet Minh, a foreword author of a two-volume New Comprehensive Vietnamese-Russian dictionary published in 2012.

Valentina Andreeva is currently working on a Vietnamese-Russian idiom dictionary with cultural notes.

Her research interests are: bilingual lexicography, lexicology, the Vietnamese language, phraseography, phraseology, linguistic and culture studies.
