Zhornik obtained her BA (2018) and MA (2020) degrees at the Division of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics of Moscow State University. Diploma theses: "Passivnye konstrukcii v ural’skix jazykax: tipologija i diaxronija" [Passive Constructions in Uralic Languages: Typology and Diachrony] and "Passivnye konstrukcii v mansijskom jazyke: diaxronija i variativnost’" [Passive Constructions in the Mansi Language: Diachrony and Variation] (supervised by Vladimir Plungyan).
She participated in several field trips of the Division of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics at MSU, led by Svetlana Toldova (Moksha, Hill Mari and Khanty languages). Since 2017 she herself has been leading fieldwork aimed at documenting the Mansi language, especially the Upper Lozva dialect. She has also been working on creating a Mansi corpus.
Research interests: linguistic typology, documentation of minor languages, verbal morphology, field linguistics, voice, actant derivation, Uralic languages.
