Leading Researcher, Section of Theoretical Linguistics
Natalia Azarova is a Russian linguist specializing in the philosophy of language. She studies the theories of poetic translation, poetic bilingualism, and the linguistic theory of poetry. Her research interests also include the theories of interlingual and interdiscourse communication, as well as the language of philosophy and the current developments of poetic language and its interconnection with the language of philosophy.

Natalia Azarova graduated from the Faculty of Philology of the Lomonosov Moscow State University. During the 1980s and early 1990s, she worked at the Department of Iberian Romance Linguistics at the Faculty of Philology of MSU and at the Institute of Linguistics under the guidance of Yuri Stepanov. She taught a course on the conceptual analysis of the language of Russian religious philosophy. Natalia Azarova is the author of a number of renowned textbooks including "Text. Russian literature of the first half of the XIX century" (1997, 2000, 2001, 2005) and "Poetry" (2016, 2021). She is the winner of the "Textbook of the XXI century" award. In 2007, many a philologist and philosopher participated in an interdisciplinary academic seminar "The Language of Philosophy" organized by Natalia Azarova.
In 2010, Natalia Azarova defended her Dr.habil. thesis "Convergence of poetic and philosophical texts of the XX century (linguistic aspect)" at the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Natalia Azarova's monographs "Language of philosophy and language of poetry – moving to each other" and "Typological study of the Russian philosophical language" were included in the shortlist of the Andrei Bely Prize.
In 2012, Natalia Azarova established the Centre of Linguistic Studies of the World Poetry. The Centre aims at establishing effective cooperation between linguists researching different languages and scholars of various countries and institutions, between linguists and literary scholars. The Centre's other goals include typological and historical research of the major languages of world poetry, together with the research of poetry of minor languages and dialects.
Natalia Azarova is currently an academic advisor of 2 PhD candidates.
Natalia Azarova is a moderator of the World Poetic Practices seminar and an editor of a series of anthologies "Chinese Poetry Today" 2017 and "Poetry of Latin America Today" 2019.
Natalia Azarova is the authоr of 11 books of poetry. She is the winner of the Andrei Bely Prize (2014) and the special Moscow Account Prize (2020). Natalia Azarova translates poetry from Chinese, Portugese, Spanish, and German. Her own poetry has been translated into English, Spanish, Chinese, French, German, Dutch, Swedish, Latvian, Polish, Serbian, Slovenian, Chuvash, Macedonian, and Romanian.
