 Ongoing projects

"Languages of the World"

Languages of the World is an ongoing project of publishing encyclopedic linguistic descriptions of languages set up at the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The project is presented in the form of separate volumes covering genealogical or areal groups of languages. Languages or groups of languages are described from the standpoint of linguistic typology, descriptions being based on a universal scheme for publication which considers sociolinguistic, diachronic and grammatical characteristics of the language. Such format of description ensures the comparability of the languages of different systems and creates the foundation for typological research.

Electronic database "Languages of the World"

The electronic database is compiled on the basis of the volumes of the encyclopedia "Languages of the World". It exists in the form of questionnaires on individual languages (created as part of the State Task on the topic No. 0182-2020-0011 "Current Applied Methods for Obtaining and Processing Linguistic Knowledge"). The aim of the project is to create a resource for research in linguistic typology.
