About the speaker
Ana Kondic — Visiting Researcher, Department of Linguistic and Cultural Evolution, Max Planck Institute, Jena, Germany
Abstract of the presentation
In this presentation I would like to share my experience of working with the native speakers of the northern varieties of Mixe: Mixe of Tlahuitoltepec, of Totontepec and Mixe of Cotzocon, spoken in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. The project “Documentation of Mixe language and culture of Oaxaca” has started last year in June, and a first result of this field work is a collection of narratives in Mixe, translated into Spanish and then into English. The book contains a thematic dictionary of about 3000 words in all the three varieties, and a CD with audio recordings. After many efforts, at the end of the project I was able to hand out to these Mixe communities this collection of texts, done in close collaboration with the community members.
The presentation will be delivered in Russian.
