The Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences is a publicly funded state academic institution, established in 1950. The Institute is among the oldest linguistic research establishments in Russia. Its researchers conduct large-scale and in-depth study into various theoretical and practical problems of linguistics, as well as into the languages of Russia and the world.
The employees of the institute are high-grade specialists, including full members of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Many of them are PhD and Dr.habil.

The Russian Presidential Council for the Russian Language
The council aims at ensuring the development, protection and support of the Russian language, as well as at coordinating international humanitarian collaboration in this direction. In 2019, the new Council included the Institute's Director Andrey KIbrik, the head of the Research Center for National Linguistic Relations Vladimir Alpatov, and the head of the Section of Typology Vladimir Plungian.
