Employed at the Institute of Linguistics since 2001.
Aysa Bitkeeva is a specialist in the field of sociolinguistics, language theory, and intercultural communication, as well as the author of more than 120 scientific publications, including 12 monographs, published in leading Russian and international scientific journals.
In 2008, Bitkeeva was awarded the gold medal of the Russian Academy of Sciences for the best scientific work among young scientists in the field "Literature and language". In 2008, she won the grant from the President of the Russian Federation in the framework of state support for young scientists.
Bitkeeva's research interests mainly concern the study of language situations, language policy, language legislation in Russia and foreign countries, linguo-folklore studies and linguo-culturology.
Research conducted by Bitkeeva greatly contributed to the development of theoretical and applied sociolinguistics, and, especially, to the establishment of new approaches for studying the functional development of the ethnic languages in the Russian Federation, sociolinguistic typology of linguistic situations, language policy in Russia and foreign countries, the development of sociolinguistic forecasting, etc. She is the author of several monographs prepared at the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences ("Nacional'nye jazyki v èpoxu globalizacii: Rossija-Mongolija" [Ethnic languages in globalization epoch: Russia-Mongolia] (2011), "Jazykovaja politika v kontekste sovremennyx jazykovyx processov" [Language policy in the context of modern language processes] (2015), "Kalmyckij jazyk v sovremennom mire (sociolingvističeskij aspekt)" [Kalmyk language in the modern world (sociolinguistic aspect)] (2006), "Anglo-kalmycko-russkij razgovornik" [English-Kalmyk-Russian Phrasebook] (2003), "Slovar' sociolingvističeskix terminov" [Glossary of Sociolinguistic Terms] (2006), Encyclopedia "Jazyk i obščestvo" [Language and Society] (2016), "Zakonomernosti sociokul'turnogo razvitija jazykov v poliètničeskix stranax mira: Rossija-V'etnam" [Sociocultural development of languages in polyethnic countries: Russia-Vietnam] (2020), etc. Bitkeeva's theoretical works successfully find their practical application. As an expert of the State Duma Committee on Issues of Nationalities, she participates in drafting the laws, conducts expert examinations of draft laws related to the languages of the peoples of the Russian Federation. She is also an expert of the Russian Science Foundation and the Russian Foundation for Basic Research.
Bitkeeva's scientific work is especially concerned with the study of the language and folklore of the Mongolian peoples. She explored and introduced to the field the linguistic and folklore material of the Oirat-Kalmyks. A 10-volume fundamental work "Pamjatniki fol'klora mongol'skix narodov" [Monuments of Folklore of the Mongolian peoples] was prepared and is being published since 2015 under her supervision.
With Bitkeeva as a leader, a number of international scientific research projects was implemented: "Ethnic languages in the age of globalization: Russia-Mongolia" (2009-2011); "Patterns of socio-cultural development of languages in multi-ethnic countries (Russia-Vietnam)" (2015-2017); "Language policy and functional development of the languages of the peoples of the Russian Federation" (2012-2014); "Cultural and linguistic dynamics of the linguistic community: historical and present situation" (2008-2010); "Monuments of Folklore of the Mongolian peoples" (2012-2015); "Methods of prognosis and future scenarios of language policy development (on the example of the Russian Federation as a multilingual country)" (2021-2023), etc. Bitkeeva has also authored and executed a number of international research projects (GBS 2001; Tokyo 2003; Hanoi 2004, 2016; Ulaanbaatar 2009, 2010, 2015; Beijing 2016, etc.).
Bitkeeva actively contributes to the scientific life of the Russian Academy of Sciences. She was part of the Scientific Council of the Programs of basic research of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences (2006-2014), and she is a member of the Dissertation Council of the Institute of Linguistics and the Dissertation Council of the Gorky Institute of World Literature, Russian Academy of Sciences. She is the chief co-editor of the journal "Sociolingvistika" [Sociolinguistics], is a member of the editorial board of "Ngôn ngữ journal" [Journal of Language] by the Vietnamese Academy of Sciences, as well as of the journal "Language Policy & Language Education", of the Russian journals "Voprosy filologii" [Matters of Philology], "Rodnoj jazyk" [Native Language], and of the scientific almanack "Tradicionnaja kul'tura" [Traditional Culture].
Aysa Bitkeeva teaches as a professor in Russian universities (Moscow State Pedagogical University, Kalmyk State University, Turgenev State University of Oryol), as well as in foreign universities (Justus Liebig University Giessen (2016-2017); University of Tokyo (2003); Jeonbuk National University (2008-2001), National Chengchi University (2020), etc.). She also directs the research work of post-graduate students of the Institute of Linguistics in the Russian Academy of Sciences.
