Cherkunova was born in Moscow on the 25 of March 1996. She graduated from Russian New University and specialised in Linguistics. She turned out to be the only graduate from the first group of students to ever study Persian at this university. At the same time, she was undergoing retraining as a teacher at Moscow State University. Cherkunova was actively participating in student conferences. She defended her BA thesis "Problemy perevoda frazeologizmov s persidskogo jazyka na russkij" [Problems of Translating Persian Idioms into Russian].
In 2016, Cherkunova participated in a month-long language internship in Tehran. In 2019, she took part in 2-week's further training courses in Islamic culture there.
In 2020, she graduated with a MA degree from Russian New University (specialisation in linguistics, profile - Methodology of teaching Russian as a foreign language with digital means). She defended her MA thesis "Kreolizovannye teksty (komiksy) kak instrument v metodike prepodavanija russkogo jazyka kak inostrannogo" [Creolized texts (comics) as an instrument in the methodology of teaching Russian as a foreign language]. Academic supervisor - Evgeny Tarasov.
Since 16 September 2020, Cherkunova has been employed as a Research Assistant in the Section of Iranian Languages of the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences under the supervision of Elena Molchanova, PhD, Dr.habil. In the last five months, she helped to gather the documents of the section, participated in the Orientalist Readings of the Institute of Oriental Studies at the Russian Academy of Sciences, joined the Council of Young Researchers at the Institute of Linguistics. She wrote two articles in co-authorship with Elena Molchanova, one of which is an obituary of Prof. Badr al-Zaman Qarib (Iran) and has been published in the "Vostok" journal of the Higher Attestation Commission. The second article is dedicated to Turkic borrowings in Russian and the languages of Iran.
Cherkunova attends online lectures and seminars for the postgraduates of the Institute of Linguistics, online events at the Institute, and weekly online meeting of the Section. She is helping the employees of the Section to find the necessary books, journals and web resources.
