Ekaterina Yakovenko was born in 1968 in Volkhov, the Leningrad Region. In 1985 she graduated from school №44 in Kursk. In 1990, she graduated from the Faculty of Foreign Languages of the Kursk State Pedagogical University with a degree in English and German languages. In 1993 she graduated from the Faculty of Foreign Languages of the Moscow State Pedagogical University with a degree in French.
1992 – 1995 – Ekaterina Yakovenko studied in graduate school at the Department of English Vocabulary and Phonetics of the Moscow State Pedagogical University. In 1995 she defended Ph.D. thesis Reconstruction of the elements of the conceptual area “human spiritual life” (based on German and English languages) (supervisor - D. Dobrovolsky).
2000 – 2002 – she was a doctoral student in the Section of Germanic Languages of the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In 2007 she defended her Dr.habil. thesis The linguistic image of a person in English and German translations of the Bible (experience of conceptual modelling).
Ekaterina Yakovenko began her academic career in 1990 as a teacher of German and English at a secondary school in Kursk. She worked there for two years. 1995 – 2001 – she worked as a senior lecturer, then as an assistant professor of the Department of the 2nd foreign language of the Faculty of Foreign Languages of the Moscow State Pedagogical University. Since 2003, Ekaterina Yakovenko has been working at the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences (2003 – 2008 – Senior Researcher, since 2009 – Leading Researcher). At the same time, she teaches at a number of Moscow universities (IGUMO and IT(Institute for The Humanities and Information Technologies), Orthodox St. Tikhonovsky Humanitarian University, HSE).
Research interests are related to a wide range of general and specific linguistic disciplines, such as cognitive linguistics, diachronic linguistics, translation studies, Biblical Studies. The most famous works of Ekaterina Yakovenko are devoted to translations of the Bible into ancient and modern Germanic languages. In her works, she consistently solves problems connected to the relationship between a word and a concept, the implementation of culturally significant concepts in the original and translated texts, the equivalence of lexical units and their contexts in primary sources and translations. She has developed a method of lexical-contextual application and re-application, in which she widely involved the analysis of translated texts. Ekaterina Yakovenko is the author of more than 135 scientific research and 1 monograph. The main results of Ekaterina Yakovenko's research have been published in the journals «Voprosy filologii», «Filologičeskie nauki», «Vestnik Novosibirskogo gosudarstvennogo universiteta», «Vestnik Moskovskogo lingvističeskogo universiteta», «Religiovedenie», «Čelovek», «Kognitivnye issledovanija jazyka», «Logičeskij analiz jazyka».
Ekaterina Yakovenko participates in conferences held by the Institute of Linguistics ("Jarcevskie čtenija" 2003, 2006, 2009, 2012, round-table conference organized annually by the Institute of Linguistics and The Russian Cognitive Linguists Association – since 2014, "Logičeskij analiz jazyka" – since 1999).
Ekaterina Yakovenko is a member of international scientific organisations: Society of Biblical Literature (SBL) and European Society for the Study of English (ESSE).

Ekaterina Yakovenko is actively involved in editorial and organizational work. She participates in international conferences and in the editing of special digests.
Ekaterina Yakovenko also carries out academic qualification for graduate students and applicants. She has been the supervisor of 4 successfully defended Ph.D. theses.
Ekaterina Yakovenko is teaching at Moscow universities:
- since 2000 – Institute for The Humanities and Information Technologies (2000 – 2007 – Associate Professor, since 2007 – Professor of the Departments of English Philology and Foreign Languages). She gives theoretical lessons and conducts seminars on Introduction to Linguistics, History of Linguistics, General Linguistics, History of the English Language and Introduction to Germanic Philology, Gothic Language, English Lexicology. 2003 – 2007 – she also conducts classes on Stylistics and Comparative Typology, practical classes on the 2nd foreign language (French), prepares curricula and training packages for these disciplines, supervises term papers and diploma theses, writes articles and participates in scientific events of the university;
- since 2007 – Professor of the Department of German Philology at Orthodox St. Tikhonovsky Humanitarian University. Ekaterina Yakovenko delivers theoretical courses and conducts seminars on introduction to Germanic philology, the Gothic language, the history of the English language (bachelor's degree), the historical grammar of Germanic languages (master's degree), prepares curricula and training packages in these disciplines, supervises term papers and diploma theses. She also writes articles and participates in scientific events of the university;
- since 2015 – Professor of the Department of Foreign Languages, Faculty of Humanities, National Research University Higher School of Economics. She gives theoretical lessons and conducts seminars on introduction to linguistics (bachelor's degree), general linguistics (master's degree), draws up curricula and training packages in these disciplines, supervises term papers, and participates in scientific events of the university.
Popularisation of science:
In 2012, Ekaterina Yakovenko was invited as a lecturer to Karaganda State University, where she read a number of lectures on problems of general and German linguistics, participated in a round-table conference.
Ekaterina Yakovenko regularly attends the defences of Ph.D. theses and Dr.habil. theses as an official opponent, writes reviews on dissertations. Since 2015, she is a member of the Dissertation Council D 002.006.02 at the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
